Award Recognizes Companies Emphasizing Employee Development

RESTON, VA (April 9, 2007) – In partnership with the Washington metropolitan chapters of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Helios HR proudly announces the 2007 Helios Apollo AwardsTM. The Apollo Awards recognize Washington-area organizations that promote employee growth and development as an integral part of their organizational culture. The deadline for submission of nominations is April 26, 2007. Award finalists and winners will be recognized at a breakfast ceremony on June 8 in Tysons Corner, VA.

The Apollo Awards recognize organizations that promote a continuous learning environment as part of their culture. This includes creating new and challenging opportunities which encourage teams to develop additional skills and/or enhance their existing capabilities.

“The Apollo Awards seek to recognize organizations that provide more than just standard benefits in developing their people as part of the organizational culture,” said Kathy Albarado, president of Helios HR. “In the highly competitive work environment of the 21st century, it’s not enough to offer attractive benefit packages and flexible work hours. If organizations strive to attract and retain top performers, they must commit to offering meaningful career experiences as well.”

Nominations will be reviewed by an independent panel of recognized workforce development and human resource authorities to include:

  • Sharon Armstrong, author of Stress Free Performance Appraisals
  • Tim Burn, editor of Smart CEO Magazine
  • Robert Carr, Chief Professional and Business Development Officer of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
  • Dolores Esser, Commissioner of the Virginia Employment Commission.

“People want to develop and challenge themselves while feeling like they are able to contribute to the overall corporate mission,” said Carolyn Cuppernull, President of the Human Resource Association of the National Capitol Area. “We are proud to work with Helios HR in presenting the Apollo Awards. It’s important to recognize local companies who go the extra mile to develop meaningful work environments.”
